JC proposes 35 new district judges, including PSC exam failures

Kathmandu, August 9:  The Judicial Council has recommended the appointment of 35 district judges across the country.

The Council's meeting on Friday proposed 25 candidates from the Judicial Service, six from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and four from the Legal Service for these positions.

Among those recommended are individuals who previously failed the district judge examinations but are still considered eligible under the constitution.

Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha chaired the meeting where this recommendation was made. Judicial Council did not make the decision on the appointment of vacant positions at the Supreme Court and the High Courts.

The Public Service Commission had earlier conducted the examination for district judges, with only a few passing. The Constitution mandates appointments from a pool of qualified candidates, including those who did not succeed in the initial exam. Consequently, 35 individuals have been given a chance to fill the district judge roles.

The Council will proceed with appointing the recommended judges to various districts.
