Protests at UN Office: In photos

Kathmandu, August 8:  The Human Rights and Peace Society held a demonstration outside the United Nations office in Pulchowk on Thursday afternoon. The protestors called on the UN to utilize all its resources to halt ongoing conflicts around the globe.

Participants carried placards with messages such as: "Why is the UN powerless against powerful nations?", "29 months of the Russia-Ukraine war—Where is the UN?", "10 months of the genocide in Gaza —Where is the UN?", and "The spread of war: A grave threat to human civilization."

The situation in Lebanon has become increasingly dire, with some countries advising their citizens to leave due to the looming threat of war. Additionally, fears of an imminent conflict between Iran and Israel have escalated.

Following the demonstration, a memorandum from the Human Rights and Peace Society was delivered to UN officials in Nepal. The letter urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres to address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine and Israeli aggression in Palestine, emphasizing their threat to global civilization.
