MP Khanal blames weak regulatory oversight for rising plane crashes

Kathmandu, August 8: The Rashtriya Swotantra Party (RSP) MP Shishir Khanal has expressed concern over the rising number of plane crashes in Nepal.

He presented the fact that Nepal is the 12th worst country globally in terms of fatalities from air accidents and termed the situation as 'alarming'.

MP Khanal claimed that the neighboring country India experiences fewer accidents in comparison and attributed the problem to shortcomings in regulatory oversight.

"The leadership of the regulatory bodies must be held accountable," Khanal said. "It's not just about technical issues; there should be a thorough investigation involving the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) or the relevant ministry following any accident."
