Historical context: Previous helicopter crashes in Nepal
Kathmandu, August 7: An Air Dynasty helicopter en route from Kathmandu to Syafrubesi in Rasuwa crashed on Wednesday in Gurje, Ward No. 7 of Shivpuri Rural Municipality in Nuwakot. District Police Office Nuwakot DSP Tilak Bharti has confirmed that four people have died in the accident.
The condition of the fifth person, who was also on board, remains unknown as of the time of this report. Following the crash, an army helicopter arrived at the scene, and rescue operations involving the police, military, and local residents are underway.
This incident marks the 40th helicopter accident in Nepal’s history.
The Civil Aviation Authority recalls a notable crash on December 27, 1979, when a VVIP helicopter crashed in Letang, resulting in six fatalities.
Another accident occurred on April 27, 1993, when a Himalayan helicopter crashed in Letang, though no casualties were reported.
The most recent crash prior to this was on July 11, 2023, involving a Manang Air helicopter in Solukhumbu, which claimed six lives.
