Dengue claims first life of the year

Kathmandu: A dengue infection has claimed one life this year, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under the Department of Health Services. This death occurred among 2,365 reported cases of dengue.

The infection has now spread to 73 of the country's 77 districts, with Kathmandu district reporting the highest number of cases at 287. In total, 360 people in the Kathmandu Valley have been infected: 287 in Kathmandu, 42 in Bhaktapur, and 31 in Lalitpur. Nationwide, the number of infected individuals stands at 2,365.

Experts are advising caution as dengue cases are expected to rise. The ongoing monsoon, which is predicted to bring more rain than usual, may create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding and potentially lead to an increase in dengue infections.

Currently, four districts—Mustang, Dolpa, Jumla, and Humla—are free from dengue. According to the EDCD, apart from these areas, dengue has spread to all other districts. Kaski has reported 137 cases, and overall, the country has seen 2,365 dengue infections.
