CM Karki pledges implementation of action plan to reduce road accidents by half
Morang, June 20: Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has pledged to come up with an action plan to reduce road accidents by half within a year. In his address to 'Traffic Week,' a joint initiation of the Internal Affairs and Law Ministry and the Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, Sunsari here today, the Chief Minister said the action plan aiming to launch collective efforts to minimize traffic accidents will be implemented.
As he said, the roles of traffic police, civil society, students, and media personnel will be sought and promoted in such efforts. CM Karki also promised to enhance resources for the traffic police. The traffic safety campaign requires the participation of drivers, their assistants, civil society, schools, and teachers, he stressed. Karki directed the traffic police to identify high-risk areas for accidents in Morang, Sunsari, and Jhapa, and transform them into model traffic centers.
Internal Affairs and Law Minister Lila Ballabh Adhikari and other participants including Koshi Province Police Office Chief Chandra Kuber Khapung, Chief District Officer of Morang, Prem Prasad Bhattarai, Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office's Deputy Superintendent of Police, Saroj Paudel and Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Koshi Province coordinator Saroj Shrestha urged one and all to strictly follow traffic disciples and rules.
