Vayodha Hospital found guilty of negligence in treatment, court imposes fine

KATHMANDU: Vayodha Hospital and the attending doctor have been convicted of negligence in the treatment of a patient by a bench presided over by Judge Madhab Prasad Ghimire of the Kathmandu District Court.

The court ruled to impose a fine on both the hospital and the physician, Dr. Sashi Kumar Jha, for their negligence in the treatment of a patient.

Chandra Prasad Panthi, the information officer at the Kathmandu District Court, disclosed that the court has imposed a fine of Rs. 552,830 on the hospital and Dr. Jha.

The negligence in treatment was reported after Pallavi Shrestha from Chandragiri was admitted to Vayodha Hospital following an accident. During the course of treatment, Dr. Jha allegedly misdiagnosed Shrestha's condition, leading to an infection in her wound. As a result of the misdiagnosis, Shrestha experienced mobility issues.

Subsequently, Shrestha was transferred to B and B Hospital in Gwarko, where she did not receive adequate treatment and was eventually admitted to Ahuja Hospital in India. It was during her treatment there that Shrestha became aware of the negligence of Dr. Jha at Vayodha Hospital.

Following these events, Shrestha filed a complaint with the Medical Council. An investigation conducted by the council found Vayodha Hospital and Dr. Jha responsible for the negligence, prompting Shrestha to file a case in the Kathmandu District Court.
