KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province is grappling with a severe cold spell, causing widespread distress among its residents. Over the past two weeks, temperatures have plummeted, posing significant challenges to the well-being of the vulnerable populations, including the poor, elderly, children, women, and pregnant individuals.
The region is currently enveloped in dense fog, and the cold wave has become so intense that vehicles on the highways are forced to use flashlights even during daylight hours due to reduced visibility.
Hira Lal Regmi, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Rautahat district, reported that the local authority has initiated the distribution of blankets to those adversely affected by the harsh weather conditions. Despite these efforts, challenges persist.
Hom Prasad Ghimire, the assistant CDO at Sarlahi, expressed concerns that local levels in the district have struggled to adequately address the needs of the population enduring the biting cold.
Similar predicaments are observed in Bara and other districts within Madhesh Province. As a consequence of the temperature drop, numerous schools in the region have been compelled to remain closed, further disrupting daily life.
The plight of Madhesh Province continues, and residents are braving the cold with resilience as efforts are made to alleviate the challenges posed by this relentless winter freeze.
