PM Prachanda directs completion of police adjustment within 15 days

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has issued directives to accelerate the police adjustment process during a meeting today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and security officials at his official residence in Baluwatar.

Expressing concern over the sluggish progress in the police adjustment process despite the enactment of the Nepal Police (Province Police Operation and Coordination) Act, 2076 BS, the Prime Minister urged relevant authorities to expedite the process and complete it within the next 15 days, as stated by the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda highlighted the challenges arising from delays in enacting federal laws and implementing police adjustment, adversely affecting the smooth functioning of provinces.

He emphasized the need for serious consideration of the matter, stating, "The status of federalism implementation has not met expectations, leading to direct consequences for provinces.

The hindrances in Chief Ministers and provincial governments' functions have provided an opportunity for anti-federalist forces to criticize the system and the existence of provincial governments."

PM Prachanda called for a prompt conclusion to the adjustment procedures within the next 15 days, aligning with the provisions of the Act. The meeting was attended by federal ministers, Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, Home Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, Inspector General of Police Basanta Kunwar, and officials from the Home Ministry.
