15 injured in Tundikhel stampede discharged; one undergoing treatment

KATHMANDU: Fifteen out of the 16 people injured in the stampede at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on Monday have been discharged after receiving treatment. The remaining injured individual is currently undergoing treatment at the National Trauma Centre of Bir Hospital.

The stampede occurred during separate programs organized by the Magar and Tharu communities at Tundikhel to observe Maghe Sankranti. According to Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel, the spokesperson at the District Police Range, a large number of people from the Magar and Tharu communities had gathered at Tundikhel to celebrate the Maghi festival. The sudden rush resulted in a stampede, causing injuries to 16 individuals.

"Fifteen of the injured individuals in the stampede have been discharged, while one, Karishma Magar (14) from Rautamai Rural Municipality-8 in Udaypur district, currently residing in Manamaiju, Kathmandu, is still undergoing treatment at the National Trauma Centre," stated SP Dhungel.

The injured individuals include Trisana Magar (12), Anjana Tamang (12), Rejina Ghale (19), Nikita Magar (16), Rekha Chaudhary (30), Anisa KC (16), Kalpana Chaudhary (25), Mandira Basnet (22), Mina Thapa (40), Riza Resmi Magar (19), Police personnel Prithvi Budha Magar, Nisha Rana Magar (25), Nirmala Shrestha (22), Reshmi Nepal (27), Yunika Baral (11), and Karishma Magar (14). The discharged individuals have returned home after receiving medical care.
