Agreement to send 15 detainees back to Bhaktapur from Birgunj Juvenile Detention Center

PARSA, Sep 14: After an agreement was made to send back 15 of the 18 juvenile detainees brought from Bhaktapur Juvenile Detention Center, the situation in the Birgunj Juvenile Detention Center is under control. A clash broke out all night on Tuesday between the 18 juvenile detainees brought from Bhaktapur 3 weeks ago and the initial detainees of the Juvenile Detention Center in Birgunj.

In the clash, 11 detainees and 3 policemen had been injured. The Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa, Hiralal Regmi said that the situation was brought under control only after an agreement was made to send back the 15 detainees out of the 18 who had been brought from Bhaktapur.

The child detainees who came from Bhaktapur were protesting that they would not stay here. The situation became tense after they argued with the leader of the detainees there and fought on the same issue.

The 18 child detainees out of those who broke out of Bhaktapur's Juvenile Detention Center on August 21, were brought to the Juvenile Detention Center in Birgunj. 131 juvenile detainees have been staying here since before. There are currently 149 detainees there, but the capacity of the Juvenile Detention Center is only 60 people, said CDO Regmi.

The inmates of the Juvenile Detention Center who were minors at the time of the court's decision have now reached the age of 25-26 years, but they cannot be kept in prison until the court's decision, said CDO Regmi.
