CIB not to make Rukmina Subba defendant in smuggling case
KATHMANDU, Sep 13: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Police has decided not to make 6 people, including Rukmina Subba, the defendants in the case of smuggling of 60 kg 716 grams of gold.
The Bureau suggested not to prosecute the six people defendants while submitting their investigation report to the District Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu.
The Revenue Investigation Department had arrested Customs Agent Rukmina Subba and started their investigation in the case. However, she was released on July 26 by the order of Patan High Court. The Police also suggested not to make Ashok Lama, the taxi driver who was arrested with the smuggled gold, a defendant in the case.
Similarly, the CIB has also recommended not to make Rajan Shrestha, Customs Office employee Shirdhar Tandan, Kamal Pariyar and Surendra Tamang the defendants in the case. The investigation has revealed that Surendra, alias Naresh, had helped the smugglers find a warehouse.
Five of the aforementioned six people are still under detention. Only Rukmina has been released in the case.
