Unity fraud case: Involved person jailed, victim to be paid by selling company assets

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has found the directors guilty in the much-publicized Unity scam of the 1970s. A joint bench of Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Til Prasad Shrestha has found the directors guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment and punishment.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel, Chairman Kashiram Gurung and directors Bhim Bahadur Gurung, Indra Bahadur BK, Netra Rajbanshi, Krishna Bahadur Chhetri Mahendra KC, and Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri have been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 25,000 each.
Since Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri has died, the prison sentence and fine have been reduced. General Manager Shishir Yogi has been sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of 10,000. Director Bishwanath Gautam has been sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of 10,000. To determine the amount, the government will publish a notice in a national newspaper and determine the amount.
After that, the decision states that the victim's amount will be returned based on the assets of the company claiming the amount. Spokesperson Kuinkel informed that the Deputy Director of the Judgment Enforcement Directorate would be given the responsibility to facilitate the return of the victim's money.
Unity's operators had created a pyramid-shaped network and committed embezzlement and fraud by collecting more than 3 billion rupees from 340,000 members.
