Youth arrested for stealing over Rs 10 million from e-Sewa accounts of 4,000 people

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a youth on charges of stealing more than Rs 10 million from the accounts of thousands of e-service users. The arrested person is Rahul Budha, 22, a native of Kanchanpur and currently residing in Anamnagar, Kathmandu.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Budha would send phishing links like The Alert, AT Alert to e-service users via SMS, warning them that ‘your account is about to be suspended’. Superintendent of Police Angur GC says, ‘Then he would ask them to open the link for verification and give them unauthorized access to e-service.’

According to Superintendent of Police GC, Budha had managed to steal the balance of more than 4,000 people on e-service. It has been revealed that he had stolen an amount equivalent to Rs 12 million.

He had transferred all the money to the merchant accounts of Pashupati Global Innovation Pvt. Ltd. He was arrested by the police from Kalimati, Kathmandu, on Baisakh 20.

He has been sent to the District Police Complex, Bhadrakali for further investigation and action.
