Congress Deputy General Secretary Yadav attacked at Bhrikutimandap
KATHMANDU, Sep 6: Mahendra Yadav, the Deputy General Secretary of the Nepal Congress, was attacked at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu.
It was reported that Yadav was fatally attacked on Wednesday afternoon by Shyam Sapkota, a resident of Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot.
He was attacked by a khukuri as he was about to get inside his car after leaving the Reporters Club. Yadav has suffered an injury on the back of his head from the attack.
Yadav is currently being treated at the Trauma Center. His condition is reported to be out of danger.
The Reporters Club representative, Ishwar Karki, informed that the attacker Sapkota was inside the club listening to Yadav's speech. After he left the club, he followed Yadav and suddenly attacked him.
The Kathmandu District Police Range SP, Kumud Dhungel, told Ratopati that Sapkota was detained by the police along with his khukuri.
Eyewitnesses say that Sapkota had shouted slogans in favour of monarchy after the attack. He also raised slogans against corruption and poor governance.
While informing about the incident, the police also said that Sapkota described himself as a monarchist.
