CAAN issues 4-point-decision to make hilly-region-flights secure

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to make flight operations at the airports of the hilly region safer with four points.

The Information Officer of CAAN Gyanendra Bhul issued a press release on Thursday, which states that the flight operations at the Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) Airports located in the hilly areas will be made more secure and orderly to maintain reliability by making air transports easily accessible to the people in the areas.

According to this, flight permission will only be granted after the written declaration of the chief pilot and dispatcher after confirming the destination, air route and the weather condition at the alternative airport before operating the flight at extra time at STOL airports.

Similarly, the authority said that after ensuring the standards in CAA Nepal CAR (2) while flying at STOL airports, the PIC should be completely satisfied.

Likewise, it has been decided that the airline companies flying from the Nepalganj Airport to STOL Airports must arrange a mandatory flight operation officer at the Nepalganj Airport and all the flight operation tasks should be done through that officer.

Bhul also said that a high-level committee under the coordination of the Deputy Director General of the Authority was formed to review the operating hours of all STOL airports and the availability of in-route weather.
