International Day of the World's Indigenous People being observed
KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The 29th International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples has been observed across the country today by organizing various programmes.
In a programme organised on the occasion, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana said that there is a lax implementation of reservations as guaranteed by the constitution for the indigenous people, women and backward classes. "The constitution has ensured reserves for the communities. But we have yet to use the right. All sides should work responsibly to ensure the rights of the people as guaranteed by the constitution."
All should maintain self-discipline to bring good governance in the country, she said.
Similarly, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhanraj Gurung said the government's attention had been drawn to ensuring the rights of indigenous people, and for this, required policies and laws would be made.
The government would soon bring and implement an action plan for ensuring their rights, he said.
Stating that they had fought a great struggle to get the rights of indigenous nationalities ensured by the constitution, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Amanlal Modi said there was a challenge to implement them.
