Police investigate racist assault on youth after Janakpur Bolts' win

Kathmandu, December 22 — The police have started an investigation into an assault incident that took place outside the Tribhuvan University cricket ground after the final match between Janakpur Bolts and Sudur Paschim Royals

On Saturday, a group attacked Aman Kumar Singh, a resident of Balara in Sarlahi, near the gate of Tribhuvan University. Singh, who also plays for the U-19 cricket team, sustained injuries to both arms and various parts of his body.

It is alleged that after Janakpur Bolt's victory, supporters from other teams assaulted Singh. The District Police Range Kathmandu's SP, Navaraj Adhikari, confirmed the ongoing investigation to Ratopati, saying, "The investigation is underway."

Supporters of Sudur Paschim Royals are accused of engaging in racial and communal behavior, calling Singh "Madhesi."

Singh, a student in class 12 at Darbar High School, is receiving treatment at the Bir Hospital. The attack, which left both of Singh's arms broken, has been reported to the Madhesi Commission. Following the complaint, the Madhesi Commission has sent a letter to the police headquarters to initiate an inquiry, according to acting Chairman Jivachh Sah.

Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa condemned the incident, calling it unacceptable and demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice. He said, "The racial and communal behavior by certain individuals and groups towards Janakpur Bolts' supporters is deeply concerning, and the government should immediately take action."

Janamat Party Chairman, CK Raut also called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
