Rabi Lamichhane suspended from MP position
Kathmandu, December 23 — Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been suspended from his position as a Member of Parliament (MP).
The suspension was made by Speaker of the House, Devraj Ghimire.
Following the filing of charges against Lamichhane on Sunday for the mismanagement of cooperative savings and money laundering, there was growing concern about the status of his MP position.
The police had informed Speaker Ghimire on Sunday evening that an indictment had been filed in the Kaski District Court regarding charges against Lamichhane for cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
In response, Speaker Ghimire issued a suspension notice. According to the parliamentary rules, if the Parliament session is not in progress, a suspension notice must be posted.
The notice posted by the Parliament Secretariat stated: "As per the existing law, any official, employee, or public servant from an organized body, who is in custody and has been charged under Section 22 of this Act, will be considered automatically suspended until the conclusion of the case."
