Speaker Ghimire, Cuban Ambassador Alejandro meet

KATHMANDU, April 26: Alejandro Simancas Marin, Ambassador of Cuba to Nepal, had a courtesy meeting with Speaker Devraj Ghimire at Singha Darbar on Wednesday. During the meeting, issues such as parliamentary exchange, and expansion of relations between the two countries were discussed. Speaker Ghimire recalled that it has been 48 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Cuba, and expressed his belief that there has been cooperation between the two countries in economic, social and political fields. He praised the assistance provided by the Cuban medical team during the earthquake in Nepal.

Speaker Ghimire wished the elected President and MPs in the recently held election of the Cuban Parliament. He also said that Nepal is ready to expand friendly relations and to make parliamentary exchanges between the parliaments of the two countries. 

Ambassador Alejandro informed that preparations are being made for the formation of a Cuba-Nepal friendship group for the first time and expressed his belief that Nepal will also form a friendship group. He recalled that Nepal stood against the economic embargo imposed by the US on Cuba two years ago and expressed his gratitude for Nepal's support.
