Government decides to appoint Basanta Kunwar IGP

KATHMANDU, March 24: Basanta Kunwar has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police. AIG Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has been appointed as IGP in the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Darbar. 

With the government's decision, Kunwar has succeeded in becoming the 30th Inspector General of Nepal Police. 

Kunwar joined the police service as an inspector on 19th March 1999. This time the government has maintained the priority while appointing the IGP.

When he was promoted from Senior Superintendent to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kunwar was promoted to rank one. On 20th March 2023, the Cabinet promoted 5 people including Kunwar as Additional Inspector General of Police. Even when he was AIG, Kunwar was ranked number one.

On the 1st of May, 2022, the government appointed Dhiraj Pratap Singh as IGP after shuffling the ranks. Singh retired after completing 30 years of service.
