Traffic police special checking, 5 arrested for charging more than stipulated fare from passengers

KATHMANDU, March 4: The traffic police arrested 5 people for charging more than the stipulated fare from the passengers on Saturday morning from Balkhu in Kathmandu.

Traffic police arrested 24-year-old Durga Tamang of Roshi Rural Municipality 6, Kavrepalanchok, 26-year-old Sujan Humagai of Indra Sarovar Rural Municipality 1, Makwanpur, 36-year-old Sunil Nagarkoti of Chandragiri Municipality 9, 24-year-old Ozir Ansari of Simraungarh Municipality 8, Bara and 24-year-old Krishna Bahadur Yonjan of Chandrapur 4, Rautahat.

The traffic police in plain clothes from the Victim Support Unit at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office arrested them after they were found to have charged more than the stipulated fare while monitoring the Balkhu area this morning. After receiving complaints from passengers going to outer districts from Kathmandu on the occasion of the festival (Holi) that drivers and counters charge more than the prescribed fare, Traffic police have been monitoring in plain clothes.

The spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajendra Prasad Bhatta informed that the fare charged more than the determined amount has been returned to the passengers and all the five people who were arrested have been handed over to Kalimati Police Circle for necessary action.
