Charles Sobhraj deported from Nepal

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Charles Sobhraj, serial killer infamous as the Serpent, has been deported back to his home country, France on Friday following the Supreme Court’s decision to release him.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court had issued an order to release Sobhraj who has been in jail for the past 19 years. Sobhraj’s  legal team successfully filed a petition claiming he should be given a concession on his prison term due to his age, 78, and good behavior.

A provision in Nepalese law allows inmates who have shown good character and completed 75% of their jail term to be released.

Sobhraj has been linked to more than 20 killings between 1972 and 1982, in which the victims were drugged, strangled, beaten or burned.

Likewise, the Nepali government has also banned Sobhraj from entering Nepal for next 10 years.
