Nepal witnesses decrease in fertility rate

KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Nepal has witnessed a decrease in its fertility rate in the past 26 years, according to a recent study.

The Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) Report 2022 showed that from 1996 to 2022, a Nepali woman has been giving birth to only two children on an average.

The fertility rate was 4.6 in 1996 which now stands at 2.1. The rate was 2.1 in 2001, 3.1 in 2006, 2.6 in 2011 and 2.3 in 2016.

Likewise, the report has shown that 71 in every 1000 females aged between 15 to 19 years old is 71. The number is 160 in every 1000 female ages between 20 to 24 years old and 110 in every 1000 women aged between 25 to 29 years old.
