Weeks after MCC compact ratification, Chinese Foreign Minister Yi scheduled to visit Nepal
KATHMANDU, March 15: Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Councilor of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi is scheduled to visit Nepal in the second week of Chaitra ( last week of March, 2022).
The Chinese official is scheduled to visit its southern neighbor at the time when it has only been a few weeks since it ratified the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal Compact.
According to Hou Yanqi, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Foreign Minister Yi is scheduled to visit Nepal on March 26 and 27. The Foreign Minister of Nepal is making preparations accordingly.
Since Nepal has accepted both the American and Chinese grant assistance i.e MCC and Belt and Roads Initiatives (BRI), Nepal is obliged to maintain balanced relations with both the global economic giants.
Ahead of MCC compact ratification by the Government of Nepal, China had expressed concern about the compact.
Nepal on May 22, 2017 had signed the BRI agreement with China.
