There is no reason to stay with Dahal after ratification of MCC compact: Leader Shrestha
Earlier, in the party’s general convention, Maoist Center had decided to oppose the MCC compact ratification without amendment. Faction of the party-led by Shrestha has accused Chairman Dahal of acting against the party's decision.
KATHMANDU, March 3: With the support of the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist), the government has recently ratified the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal compact.
Following the ratification of the compact, an intra-party row has erupted among the leaders of the CPN (MC). Faction of the party led by leader Narayankaji Shrestha has accused the party’s Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal of acting against the party’s decision.
Earlier, during the party’s general convention, Maoist Center had decided to oppose the MCC compact ratification without amendment.
CPN (Maoist Center) was opposing the compact until Prime Minister Sher Bahadur sought help from the main opposition party, CPN-UML. Despite, huge outcry of party members, CPN (MC) finally changed its tone and decided to support the Deuba government to ratify the compact with an ‘interpretative declaration.’
Party insiders maintain that the party is likely to split following the recent political activities.
“Finally, with a deceiving and confusing ‘interpretative declaration’ the MCC-compact has been ratified. The day will be marked as a black day in the history of the country,” leader Shrestha posted in his social media account a few hours after parliament ratified the MCC-Nepal compact.
Besides Shrestha, leaders Lilamani Pokhrel, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Anjana Bishakhe and Peshal Kathiwada are unsatisfied with Chair Dahal’s action.
These leaders have been holding discussions about their upcoming strategies and have reached a conclusion that further partnership with Chair Dahal is not possible.
