Party won’t allow govt to ratify MCC until our demands are addressed: UML
KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The main opposition party, CPN-UML has maintained that the party won’t allow the government to ratify the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal Compact until the government addresses the demand of the party.
“Until the demands of the party are not fulfilled, the UMl won’t let the government ratify the compact,” said Bishal Bhattari, chief whip of the party. “The party will also not participate in any sort of parliamentary proceedings,” Bhattari added.
The party wants the Speaker of the lower house to take action against 14 lawmakers of the party who were expelled by the party. The expelled lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal later formed the CPN (Unified Socialist).
“Once the demands are addressed, the party will make its position on the MCC agreement,” Bhattari said.
The main opposition party has so far not made its position clear about the MCC.
The government on Sunday tabled the MCC in parliament amid UML’s obstruction.
