Next Cabinet to announce local polls date for May 18

KATHMANDU,  Feb 1: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government is preparing to announce dates for local-level elections. 

During a meeting with the office-bearers of the Election Commission (EC) at his official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, PM Deuba shared that the next Cabinet meeting would make a formal announcement to hold the elections for local governments in a single phase on May 18, later this year. 

Deuba also inquired with the poll body whether the latter could hold the elections in a single phase. 

The poll body has been urging the government to announce the date of the poll at the earliest as the local representatives are completing their tenure on May 19.
