Martyrs’ Day being observed today

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Martyrs' day is being observed in Nepal on Sunday.
People, on this day, offer their homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation and people during various democratic struggles and movements.
Martyrs’ Day falls on the 16th of Nepali month of Magh every year commemorating the four martyrs --- Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha--- who were executed by the then autocratic Rana rules for their involvement in creating awareness among people for their freedom and rights.
Nepal observes Martyrs week from Magh 10 to 16.
