Meeting of ruling alliance ends, to be continued at 4 PM

Decision regarding the local level election likely this evening.

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The meeting of the ruling alliance – the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party – has ended and is to be continued later at 4 PM on Saturday.

The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office Residence at Baluwatar was mainly focused on the issues of the local level elections.

The meeting has been postponed for now and is scheduled to be held at 4 PM this evening to make necessary decisions.

At the times when the main opposition party and the Election Commission are making calls to hold the local level elections in Baishakh (April/May), the ruling alliance has been discussing time and again to hold the election of all the three tiers of government at the same time.

Despite the frequent recommendation of the Election Commission to hold the local level election in Baishakh (April/May), the ruling alliance has failed to reach a consensus and announce a date for the election.

The alliance has rather maintained that the Acts and the Constitution are conflicting and must be amended first.
