Meeting of ruling alliance underway at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The ruling alliance – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party – is currently holding a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office Residence at Baluwatar.

The meeting has been attended by the key leaders of the alliance, including Prime Minister and President of NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party, Upendra Yadav.

Despite the frequent recommendation of the Election Commission to hold the local level election in Baishakh (April/May), the ruling alliance has failed to reach a consensus and announce a date for the election.

The alliance has rather maintained that the Acts and the Constitution are conflicting and must be amended first.

Earlier on Friday, the key leaders of the alliance, Prime Minister and President of NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (MC), Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chairman of CPN (US), Madhav Kumar Nepal held a meeting at PM’s Office Residence at Baluwatar and discussed the issue of local-level election and amendment of the Act.
