NA polls: UML's Sherpa, CPN (US)'s Rai emerge victorious in Province 1

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa, a candidate of the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has been elected as a member of the National Assembly.

Sherpa defeated his contender Hem Raj Rai to be lected to the NA from Province 1. Rai contested in the election representing the ruling alliance as a candidate of the Janata Samajbadi Party.

Sherpa was able to garner 4,752 vote weightage while votes secured by Rai weighed 4,368.

Likewise, Jayanti Rai, a candidate of CPN (Unified Socialist) from the ruling alliance also emerged  victorious in the election.
