India reports 2.55 lakh daily new COVID-19 cases, lowest in a week

JAN 25: India on Tuesday reported less than 3 lakh Covid cases - 2,55,874 new cases (50,190 less than Monday), 614 deaths and 2,67,753 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Covid-19 cases in the third wave of the pandemic have started to fall in seven states and Union territories, while several others were witnessing a slowdown in the surge, weekly numbers reveal.

The 614 new fatalities include 171 from Kerala, 46 from Tamil Nadu and 45 from Punjab.

The health ministry said that active cases have decreased to 22,36,842 and comprise 5.62 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.15 percent.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease increased to 3,70,71, 898, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.23 percent, it said.
