Despite alarming case surge, people flouting COVID-19 protocol (with photos)

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Nepal has been reporting an alarming rise in day-wise COVID-19 case surge in recent days.

According to the Health and Population Ministry (MoHP), 11,352 cases were detected on Wednesday alone, which is the highest single-day spike in the country since the virus was first detected in 2019.

With rising numbers of infections, district administrations have enforced ‘smart lockdown’ restricting crowds of more than 25 people and making it mandatory to abide by precautionary measures such as wearing face masks and sanitizing hands, workplaces and public vehicles.

However, people are found breaching public health protocols even in public places such as bus stations, government offices, airports, exam centers and temples.

Here are some photos taken at various places in the Kathmandu Valley on Thursday.
