All eyes on NC’s closed-door session as 4,743 delegates all set to elect 13 office bearers
Party will elect two general secretaries
KATHMANDU: The fourteenth General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC) kicked off on Friday afternoon.
The general congress was inaugurated by party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba amidst the presence of leaders and delegates of various political parties from home and abroad, leaders and cadres of the Congress party along with delegates from across the country.
With the inaugural session drawing to a conclusion, all eyes are now on the closed-door session which is to begin on Friday itself.
As many as 4,743 delegates elected from across the country decide the fate of aspirants for various key positions of the ruling party.
According to the party statute of NC, a total of 13 office bearers will be elected by the delegates for the general convention.
A president and two vice presidents will be elected. Similarly, two general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries will be elected from the ongoing convention. The eight positions for joint secretary general include one each from eight different clusters. The clusters allocated for the position include female, indigenous nationalities, Dalit, Madhesi, Khas/Arya, Tharu Muslim and backward region.
