NC Gen Convention's inaugural session over, closed-door session to begin Friday itself
KATHMANDU: The inaugural session of the 14th General Convention of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) concluded on Friday evening.
The session kicked off at 2 PM an hour later than the scheduled time.
The session, which was attended by leaders of major political parties, delegates of political parties of India and delegates of the Congress party, was drawn to a conclusion following the speech by President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Three former prime ministers --- CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal --- were among those delivering their speeches and extending their best wishes during the opening session.
Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav and Chairman of Democratic Socialist Party (DSP), Mahantha Thakur also extended their greetings for the success of the ruling party’s national jamboree which kicked off on Friday.
The program was also addressed by Durga Poudel, vice-chair of Rastriya Janamorcha, Rajendra Lignden, newly elected chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and CP Mainali, general secretary of CPN-ML.
Similarly, Indian National Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr Harsh Vardhan also addressed the event.
Meanwhile, the closed-door session of the convention will begin on Friday itself, according to Congress spokesperson Bishow Prakash Sharma. Sharma hosted Friday's opening session.
As many as 4,743 delegates elected from across the country will participate in the closed session which will constituent a new leadership for the next five years.
