Shakya secures highest number of votes to become UML vice chair. Know individual votes
KATHMANDU: Asta Laxmi Shakya has been elected the only vice chair and one of two office bearers of the main opposition party CPN-UML. Padma Aryal is another female among the 19 office bearer positions.
Shakya garnered a total of 1976 votes and was declared victorious. Surendra Pandey secured 1925 votes followed by Subash Nembang’s 1865, Bishnu Poudel’s 1856 and Yubraj Gyawali’s 1842 votes.
Ram Bahadur Thapa, who decided to join the UML after the Supreme Court invalidated the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in March, was also elected one of the vice chairs. He managed to secure as many as 1768 votes.
It is to be noted that all of these six leaders were proposed as party vice chairs by Chair KP Oli in a bid to elect new leadership unanimously.
Ghanashyam Bhusal, who challenged Oli’s nominations list and filed his candidacy, secured only 725 votes.
