Four detained with rare golden tortoise

KATHMANDU, November 28: Police have arrested four people with a rare golden tortoise from Solatee Dobato of Kathmandu metropolis-13. Metropolis Police Range, Kathmandu says it has confiscated cash of Rs 36,655 from the group.

The arrested are Sanjay Tamang, Prakash Khati, Raj Kumar Tamang, and Hari Pariyar. They, from different parts of the country, were currently residing in Kathmandu. Acting on a tip-off that smuggling of golden tortoise was going on they were arrested on Saturday evening. Following the preliminary interrogation, they have been sent to the Division Forest Office, Hattisar for further action. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Traffic Division has lately recovered 23 stolen motorcycles and scooters from different locations and handed the vehicles to their owners.

The two-wheelers were reported to have been stolen from Chakrapath, New Baneshwor, Basundhara, Old Baneshwor, Narayantaar, Nagarjun, Satdobato, Koteshwor, Kandaghari, Kalanki, Bhainsepati, Bhimsengola, Gangalal, Lokanthali, Kapan, Sanepa, Makalari, Mangalbazar, Tokha, Bijeshwori, and Chagal Syoyambhu areas. A traffic squad in plain cloth were mobilised to search and seized the missing vehicles.

It is said, Hotline number ‘103’ or online service ‘Lost Vehicle Application’ is available to report about the missing vehicle to the police. The Division has urged drivers to use a lock system and an alarm for the safety for own vehicles. So far of the current fiscal, 176 stolen two and three-wheelers were seized and handed to the owners and 21 people have been send to the respective police circles along with stolen motorcycles for further action, according to Division Chief Senior Superintendent of Police Janak Bhattarai.
