UML’s Gen Convention to elect 19 office bearers

KATHMANDU: The CPN (UML) is all set to elect the new leadership through the ongoing Tenth General Convention of the party. 

For the purpose of, the party is holding the closed-door session in Hotel Seven Star in Sauraha of Chitwan district. 

The session will elect as many as 19 office bearers including a chairman, a senior vice chair, six vice-chairs, a general secretary, three deputy general secretaries and seven secretaries. 

The last meeting of the incumbent CC held in Sauraha on Friday midnight decided to increase the number of office-bearers including the central committee members. 

The existing 225-member central committee will be increased to 301 members once endorsed through the close session to kick off from Saturday.  

According to UML leaders, the party statute would be amended in a bid to elect the new leadership unanimously.

The number of office bearers will also increase as per the proposal of party Chair KP Sharma Oli. Hence, the total number of office bearers has reached 19 from 15. 

Party’s first statute convention, held in October, endorsed a provision of having a chairman, five vice-chairmen including a senior vice chairman, a general secretary, a deputy general secretary and seven secretaries.
