Nepal lose to India 3-0 in SAFF Championship final

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s dream to lift the maiden trophy of the SAFF Championship went in vain as they lost the final match to India 3-0. 

Nepal, who made it to the final for the first time in 28-year history of the championship, suffered the humiliating loss against India who have won the title for eight times including the one on Saturday. 

Though the first half of the match played at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives ended with a goalless draw, Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri opened the scoring spree in the 49th minute. Suresh Singh Wangjam doubled the lead in less than a minute. The third goal of the game was scored in the injury time by Sahal Adbul Samad. 

Nepal paved their road to the final of the tournament beating the Maldives (1-0) and Sri Lanka (3-2)and playing a 1-1 draw against Bangladesh. Nepal had even lost their group-stage match against India 1-0.
