SAFF Championship: Nepal aiming to create history as they take on India in final tonight

KATHMANDU: Nepal National Football Team are eying to claim the maiden title of the SAFF Championship as they face arch rival India in the final match of the tournament to be held at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives on Saturday evening. 

Nepal had to wait for 28 years to enter the final of the tournament. This is the first time Nepal made it to the final since it began in 1993 in the name of SAARC Gold Cup. 

India are the strongest contenders for Nepal as they have lifted the trophy for seven times. 

Of the 22 encounters, Nepal lost 15 matches to India, emerged victorious in two while five other matches ended with a draw. 

Coach Abdullah Almutairi’s side started the campaign with two consecutive wins ---- one against the hosts Maldives (1-0) and the other against Sri Lanka (3-2). Though they lost to India, ensured their place in the final after a draw against Bangladesh.
