Government needs all-side support to deal with Darchula incident: Gagan Thapa

CHITWAN, August 4: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the government needs support from all quarters to investigate the Darchula incident.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, the lawmaker said it was the major responsibility of the government to protect the people's life and the all political parties should be united  to respond to the incident. The parliament should be the backup support for the government to bring out facts surrounding the incident, according to the lawmaker.

The government in the past could be able to publish a revised political map of the country due to the strength  of the parliament and cooperation from all quarters and such power was again needed for the investigation into the Darchula incident.

It may be noted that thirty-three-year-old Jaya Singh Dhami of Darchula had gone missing in the Mahakali River few days ago and the role of Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) is alleged in the incident. The SSB is alleged of removing  a tuine (ropeway) Dhami was using to cross the river.

Stating that the decision of the incumbent government to dissolve the Land  Issue Resolving Commission formed by the erstwhile government bypassing the parliament discussions was indeed a positive step,  the former Minister  was of the view that the government should move ahead by formulating minimum common programmmes to address the issues of landless people.

On a different note,  he stressed that the NC  General Convention  should be held with the deadline and as per the jurisdictions granted by the constitution and the law.
As he said,  any unsettled disputes within the party should be presented to the central committee in a bid to find a way out to the  issues .  Those not summoning the CC meeting on time would have no excuse if  the convention could not be held on time, he argued.
