Election Commission grants JSP legitimacy to Upendra Yadav faction (with full verdict)

KATHMANDU, July 26: The Election Commission, on Monday, granted the legitimacy of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) to the Upendra Yadav faction of the party.

Hearing over the petition filed by both the faction – one close to Yadav and the other to Mahantha Thakur–, the full bench comprising chief commissioner and commissioners of the poll body asked the Thakur faction to come up with a new name and get registered.

The election body conducted ‘head count’ of the Executive Committee members earlier on Monday afternoon and verified their signatures to ensure whether the majority of members support either of the factions.

Thirty four of the 51-member strong committee extended their support to the Yadav faction while 16 others signed to support Thakur. However, executive member Resham Chaudhary remained neutral.

The EC had earlier formed a bench and conducted a legal hearing from July 18 to 22 for sorting out the dispute regarding the authenticity of the party.
