Training on enhancing performance of local governments concludes


NEPALGUNJ, June 14: A five-day virtual training ‘Enhancement of Local Government Operations and Management Effectiveness’, organized by Lumbini Province Training Academy, Nepalgunj, Banke, concluded on Sunday. 

Training Academy’s Executive Director Moti Prasad Sharma said the training was organized to further improve performance of newly-recruited public service employees working at assistant level and enhance effectiveness of service being delivered by local levels as the doorstep governments. 

As many as 42 employees serving the local levels of Banke and Bardia districts under Lumbini Province took part in the first phase of the training held on 9-13 June. 

At the onset of the training programme organized with the support of Province and Local Governance Support Programme (PLGSP), Sharma highlighted the role of the province training academy in strengthening capacity of the local levels. 

“There was no option to impart the training through virtual mode owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we will conduct the training programme further effectively in coming days so as to contribute to the quality delivery of public services”, Sharma added. 

Curriculum Development Expert of the Training Academy, Bishnu Neupane said that the training was delivered by different thematic experts being based on the curriculum prepared by the Academy.  Among the key thematic areas of the training were note writing and its style, public assets management system (PAMS), professional communications and correspondence, roles and responsibilities of local governments, gender equality and social inclusion, localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), rights of local levels on revenue collection and mobilization, public procurement, Right to Information, appreciative inquiry, budget formulation process and use of SUTRA, service delivery in pandemic, audit and arrear settlement, planning and development management, execution and monitoring, among others, Nepane elaborated. 

Training Coordinator Tek Narayan Dhakal said the resource materials and certificates would be handed over to the participants in their respective local level.
