Oxygen bank established in Pokhara

KASKI, May 10: An oxygen bank has been established in Pokhara to cope with the potential crisis of life-saving gas here amidst the rising cases of Covid-19.

Pokhara-based seven rotaries clubs joined hands to set up the oxygen bank in coordination with the Gandaki Auto Mechanical Workshop.

As said by campaign coordinator Minu Kunwar, Gandaki workshops have around 2,000 oxygen cylinders and they will be sent to oxygen gas industries to refill before supplying to hospitals.

Campaign dissemination coordinator Arjun Khanal has urged one and all not to store oxygen cylinders unnecessarily. Anyone possessing the oxygen gas cylinder has been requested to hand it to the bank for the time being so that it could be used for those who need it the most.

“Our efforts are for addressing the potential crisis of medical oxygen when the entire country is grappling with the soaring cases of infection as we want that no patient has to die in lack of oxygen,’’ he said.

There is a high demand for oxygen gas in Pokhara that serves as the capital of Gandaki Province. Though the town has the oxygen plant, the shortage of cylinders has hampered the smooth supply of the gas to hospitals. Local governments, people’s representatives and polices are searching for cylinders.
