Nepal into semi-finals for the first time
Kathmandu- Nepal has booked a place in the semi-finals of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup Cricket tournament underway in Malaysia.
Nepal finished runners-up in its group A to enter the semi-finals of the regional tournament for the first time ever. Nepal had so far failed to progress from the group stage.
Defeating defending champions India yesterday and host Malaysia today, Nepal ended with 4 points behind Bangladesh that collected 6 points to top the group. India ended third to return home from the tournament and Malaysia finished pointless at fourth position in the group.
Earlier in today's match, Nepal defeated Malaysia comprehensively by 8 wickets. Putting the opposition to bat first after winning the toss, Nepali bowlers bowled out the Malaysian team in 15.3 overs with only 45 runs on the board. Sandip Lamichhane took five wickets to limit Malaysia to a paltry total.
In reply, Nepal surpassed the victory target in 5.3 overs at the loss of two wickets. The match was reduced to 24 overs each after it was interrupted by rain.
Nepal will now face Group B winners Afghanistan in the second semi-final to be held on coming Friday. In the first semi-final, Bangladesh will play against Pakistan.
