Nepal’s COVID-19 tally surpasses grim milestone of 300,000 including 3,122 new cases on Sunday

1,498 new cases were confirmed in the Kathmandu Valley alone

KATHMANDU, April 25: Nepal  has been witnessing a sharp rise of new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the country has been struck by the second wave of the viral infection. 

Officials confirmed 3,122 new cases of the disease on Sunday alone. Of the cases confirmed, 3,032 were diagnosed through RT-PCR tests while 90 others through the antigen tests.

With this, Nepal’s COVID-19 caseload has surpassed a grim milestone of 300,000. The casetally hit 300,119 on Sunday. Nepal had confirmed the first case on January 23 last year. 

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) confirmed 28 more deaths in the past 24 hours which has taken the death tally to 3,164 since the first fatality linked with viral infection was reported on May 16 last year. 

COVID-19 crisis worsening in the Valley 

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley saw a massive rise in new infections on Sunday as Kathmandu district alone reported a total of 1,132 new cases. As many as 270 people were diagnosed with the disease in Lalitpur while 96 others were found infected in Bhaktapur.
