Freed Haliyas complain of not accessing ID card

Kathmandu - Most of the freed Haliyas of the district have voiced complaint of being denied access to the Haliya Identity Card despite passage of years since they were liberated from blemished bonded works. Though some accessible people have obtained the ID cards majority are still struggling to get it so the victims have demanded collection of facts about them.

They have underlined the need to put forth the Haliya rehabilitation package, distribute ID cards and provide them with facilities based on the identity cards. They complained that they were deprived of accessing government services and facilities in absence of the ID card.

Freed Haliya Lali Damai of Dipayal Silgadhi municipality, ward no. 8, complained that though she had submitted citizen certificate and other documents for ID card purposes she has not yet obtained the card. “Some people demanded documents for the Haliya ID card.

She is still waiting for the card”. Chandra BK of the municipality-7, Uditola also has the same story. “Some people who sent their documents along with her got the ID card but ours is not.

We even do not know where to lodge a complaint for the injustice”. Haliya leader Sita BK admitted that the genuine Haliyas were missed in the course of data collection. The collection of complete data of the freed Haliyas could not take place in the district, the freed bonded workers complained.
