Students come onto street, demanding reform in education sector
Rajbiraj - School students in Saptari have launched a sit-in at Gajendra Chowk in Rajbiraj from today, demanding reform in the education sector.
Hundreds of the protestors associated with the local Laligurans Child Club have put forth a charter of 14 points demand that includes that schools be declared a zone of peace, and be allowed to remain open during any strike/ shutdown.
Other demands include a guarantee of free registration, exam and practical fees up to the class 12, and timely supply of textbooks to the community schools, among others.
Earlier, the child club members had also taken to the streets for the same cause.
The agitators have warned to intensify the protest if their demands continue to fall on deaf ears.
However, Saptari's Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey paid ignorance about the protest.
Saptari's District Education Officer Dolraj Pandey said they are positive towards addressing the demands.
