PM pledges resource availability for Mahakavi Devkota Museum project

Kathmandu - Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the Nepal Academy to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of Mahakavi Devkota Museum proposed to be built at ‘Kavikunja’ based in Kathmandu metropolis-30, Maitidevi. During his meeting with Academy Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli assured of no short of resources for the project in the future though budget was not appropriated for the same at present due to COVID-19 crisis.

The Prime Minister, on the occasion, directed Finance Minister who was also present there, to ensure budget required for the projects of national pride. It may be noted that the Prime Minister during his address to the birth anniversary celebration of great poet Devkota in 2075 BS announced to turn Devkota’s family home (birthplace) into a museum.

As per the government decision, the ownership of a plot measuring 12 anna and one dam has been legally handed to the Nepal Academy. The government has proposed to build a four-storey museum by retrofitting the structure to its original style. Chancellor Upreti said the museum construction works would be expedited once budget for the project was managed by the government.
